California HOAs Must Allow Watershed Wise Landscaping

Thanks to Assemblywoman Gonzales from Chula Vista, CA, the sponsor of AB 2104, signed into law today by Governor Brown, California HOAs must permanently permit property owners to convert their lawns into California Friendly (Watershed Wise) Landscapes.  HOAs had been side-stepping legislation and local ordinances designed to promote drought-tolerant landscaping that utilizes climate-appropriate plants by making “green lawn” an architectural feature of the properties, thereby prohibiting the installation of Watershed Wise gardens. AB 2104 returns the power of choice and environmental restoration to homeowners.

Paul Herzog from Surfrider Foundation’s Ocean Friendly Gardens program, The Association of Professional Landscape Designers, and G3’s San Diego Regional Coordinator, Diane Downey, all worked to provide background information, statistics, talking points, and support for this timely and necessary legislation.  Now we call on all G3 friends and family to get out to these HOAs and 1) help them change their CC&Rs with Ocean Friendly Gardens principles and 2) help individual homeowners implement beautiful, Watershed Wise landscapes in abundance!

If you live in an HOA and want help with your CC&Rs or as an individual homeowner, or want a member of the G3 Community to speak with your HOA board, please visit us at www.watershedwiselandscape.com and join our newsletter or send us an email at HOAhelp@watershedwisetraining.com.
