Advanced Rainwater Harvesting: Cisterns and Graywater As potable water becomes more precious, it is essential we look for ways to make the most of capturing and reusing this vital resource. Discussion includes best practices for rainwater capture, moving quickly from a review of passive capture in soil to more active capture devices such as cisterns. This course also covers the role of graywater in re-using water that is already available.  Attendees will learn:

• Sizing a cistern
• Proper placement of ‘wet’ and ‘dry’ systems
• Codes and permitting for cisterns
• Considerations in deciding graywater is an appropriate water source
• Siting and sizing mulch basins
• Designing and implementing a laundry-to-landscape system
