Senior Scientist for the Nature Conservancy, Los Angeles, CA
Sophie Parker has provided scientific and programmatic leadership and support on Conservancy projects and initiatives since 2008. As a fifth generation southern Californian, Dr. Parker’s career has focused on using science to protect ecologically important lands and waters throughout the southern part of the state.
Sophie received her Ph.D. from the Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Marine Biology at UC Santa Barbara, where she studied ecology and restoration with an emphasis on soil, microbial, and ecosystem ecology. Dr. Parker has worked as an ecologist for the Conservancy for over six years, executing plans and analyses to help minimize the impacts of renewable energy development in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts through smarter siting, convening science expertise to guide climate change adaptation and habitat restoration in Ventura County, and forging new conservation strategies in Greater Los Angeles. She is currently serving as the Acting Director of Urban Conservation for the Conservancy’s California chapter.
